
The Department of Physics, NBBGC, Tadong, in collaboration with the Public Awareness Cell, BARC Unit Kolkata (VECC), Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, organised a special programme titled “Science Achievements and Career Opportunities in DAE Institutes” on 20th November 2025 at the college Seminar Hall.
The resource persons for the programme were:

•Mr. Tanmay Das, Scientific Assistant (G)
•Mr. Sangay T. Bhutia, Scientific Officer (C) and alumnus of Physics Department, NBBGC.
The programme opened with an introductory note by Dr. Krishna Sharma, Assistant Professor, followed by the formal welcome and programme briefing delivered by Dr. Homnath Luitel, Assistant Professor & Head, Department of Physics. Dr. Luitel, encouraged students to interact freely with the visiting experts, clear their doubts, and seek guidance for their future scientific careers. He emphasised that such direct engagement with scientists working at the forefront of national research is a rare and valuable opportunity for students.
Principal Sir, NBBGC, in his address, warmly welcomed the expert team and thanked them for accepting the invitation and travelling from BARC Unit Kolkata (VECC). He urged students to take maximum benefit from the session and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in fostering holistic academic development. He also commended the Department of Physics for organising a meaningful and student centric programme, and he motivated students to work hard and pursue promising career paths in science, citing the inspiring journeys of Mr. Sangay T. Bhutia and Dr. Homnath Luitel .
During the technical session, the expert panel provided a detailed overview of the organisational structure and scientific mandate of the Department of Atomic Energy. They explained the various pathways available for students to enter scientific careers including the BARC Training School, national level examinations, and research opportunities. The speakers also discussed preparation strategies for securing scientific positions and for admission to PhD programmes under the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), which is ranked No. 2 in India (after IISc Bengaluru) and No. 1 in India in Physical Sciences, according to the latest Nature Index rankings.
The panel answered a wide range of student queries and even demonstrated the format of an actual BARC interview, in response to a question raised by Bishes Subba, MSc First Semester, regarding the level and nature of the interview process.
The valedictory session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Ronal Rai, Assistant Professor, NBBGC.
The organisers expressed their sincere gratitude to the Principal, NBBGC, for his continuous encouragement and support.
The programme saw enthusiastic participation from PG students of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Zoology, and Botany, along with Heads of Departments, Vice Principal, senior faculty members including Prof. Bhaskar Chakrabarti, and faculties from various departments. The organisers thanked all departments and faculty for their cooperation in making the event successful.
